Colour coating in sports marking is the technique of using a block colour or colours to fill a court or pitch, rather than just marking the lines of the boundaries. Courts and pitches that are colour coated are predominantly marked on outdoor tarmac surfaces, and occasionally concrete. It can be done on indoor surfaces, but generally it is just outdoors.
One of the main reasons for colour coating sports markings is because outdoor courts can be slippery; waterborne acrylic paint is used in colour coating with anti-slip properties added to create a better playing surface.
To keep your colour coated court looking as good as new it’s important to maintain the surface. Gentle pressure washing with a patio cleaner, blowing off the debris and sweeping the surface will keep it looking good and performing well.
